APC On-Line
Analysing Technology
APC-On Line Analysing
technology for lignite
APC offers various on-line
analysers. The SOLAS device forms the heart of all these
arrangements, which can be used according to the analytical and
technical needs:
• SOLAS with continuous sampling and sample preparation
• SOLAS Standard Installation: Pneumatic sampling of fine-grained
material
• SOLAS with sample dryer for wet materials
• SOLAS as an analytical downstream device for already existing
conventional
samplers (e.g. impact sampler)
Sampling
The (smal ) part of the conveyed material falls through a lattice box,
which separates
a fraction of < 30 mm. The sampling material will be extracted from
throughout the
lattice box with the help of a screw conveyor (3 t/h).

Sample transport
From the screw conveyor the
sampled material will then be transported by a conveyor belt to the
sample preparation containers (as shown in the picture below)
• Belt conveyor with rain cover, capacity of max. 5t/h
• Dumping of the sample material by a dust proof entrance through the
roof of the preparation container into the intake of the first mill
• Manual feeding of sample material maybe accomplished either on the
conveyor belt or on top of the container depending from the space
available
• A metal detector is attached below the conveyor belt

Sample preparation
First the samples will be grinded down to < 10 mm in the preparation
container. Subsequently the material falls through a funnel
which concentrates the samples above the intake of a second screw
conveyor which is underneath. Thus fluctuations in the mass flow
resulting from fluctuations of the feed into he first mill are largely
compensated.
The screw conveyor supplies the material to a second mill in which fine
grinding to minus 2 mm occurs. A tubing branch is located at the
discharge of the second mill, which makes it possible for the SOLAS
device to suck in a sample from the milled sampling material.
First mill
• Capacity 6 t/h, 50 % of the capacity used at maximum mass flow
• Hammer mill, Number of revolutions 960 U/min (r.p.m.)
• Preparation < 10 mm

Second screw conveyor
for feeding mill fine
•Conveying capacity 200 kg/h

Mill fine
• Capacity max. 2
t/h, 10 % of the capacity used at maximum mass flow
• Hammer-mill, 1350 r.p.m.
• Preparation < 2 mm
• Automatic operation or manipulation of a "cleaning comb", which cleans
the long holes of the filter inset.

SOLAS
After the second mill the sample will be sucked to the SOLAS device,
which is accommodated in its own container.
The SOLAS equipment itself will be described more detailed in the
attached brochure.
The characteristic data's of the newest SOLAS generation are:
• Siemens Industry PC integrated
• Turntable for 18 samples (pure elements and synthetic samples) for the
simplified and precisely recalibration
• Linear drive with stepping motor for the enlargement of the irradiated
and hence analysed sample surface and thus improved analytical accuracy
• Administration of 10 calibration functions is standard, more on
request
• New APC-RF-Analyzer: Improved resolution (~ 140 eV at Mn-Kα) of the
spectrum, lower detection limits, higher analytical accuracy

Detector Unit X-PLORER 9000
Every 60 seconds a data
record is produced for:
• Ash content
• Sulfur content
• Aluminium content
• Silicon content
• Potassium content
• Calcium content
• Iron content
• Heating value
On demand other elements like P, Cl, Ti and Mn can also be measured by
the analyser
X-PLORER 9000.
1.5 Visualization
The visualization is made by the system WinCC from Siemens. All
operating conditions,
measured values, operating messages are clearly indicated and saved in
archives.
In the following some of the announcements are represented:

Set up of containers
The two identical standard containers for SOLAS and the sample
preparation system (measurements 5m x 3m x 3m) are set up next to each
other.
Both containers are kept at a moderate temperature over one split air
conditioning system each. Both containers are stored on pneumatic spring
elements.

Sample
conveying |
- Directly at a transfer-point:
This technique is often applied, when bulk materials with
large lumps have to be sampled.
- From the upper side of a conveyor belt:
Only possible with steady / harmonious conveyor belt
level and grain-sizes smaller than 30 mm possible.
- In combination to a conventional sample-/processingsystem:
In this case SOLAS operates as a quick-analysing device |
